A business blog is a great way to add additional info and engagement with your customers. Blogs often serve as additional information repositories and can also be excellent tools for SEO. But how do you start a blog? It can be difficult to know what to do. To help, we have created a simple 5-day guide below!
Day 1 – Brainstorm ideas for the blog including subject and articles
First, you must generate ideas for the blog. There is no point in starting a blog without having any idea of its content and articles. Hopefully, you already have a cool idea for your blog. If so, you can immediately start generating ideas for articles. This is because to make a blog successful, you must have a series of interesting articles that will help your business gain exposure.
However, you may not even have an idea of the subject of your blog. If so, this is the first place to start. What is the main subject? Will your blog talk about your business? Or will it give info articles relating to products? You must brainstorm ideas relating to this so you have a clear path and goal for your blog.
Day 2 – Choose a platform & domain for your blog
Once you have laid the groundwork and have an outline for your blog, you must choose how you will share it. There are some dedicated blogging platforms, for example like Blogger. Alternatively, many website builders like Wix and Weebly also have blogging functionality.
Look at these platforms and see which one you think would be suitable for your needs. Also, you need to choose a URL (website address) for your blog. Some website builders include a domain, whereas some you may have to purchase a separate one from a company like Godaddy.
Day 3 – Design the layout, colors, and branding
With a platform to launch your blog from, you can now work on its design. First, you need to create a template for your blog. This is the main design that will be used repeatedly for each blog article. A template gives you flexibility and makes the blogging process easier.
This is also a great time to work on branding. You should create a logo for your blog, and decide on main color schemes, for example. Essentially, you must build your blog so that it is ready to start publishing articles. Most website builders have an easy set of tools that allow you to do this.
Day 4 – Work on marketing for the blog
You can now look at marketing your blog to gain interest once the first articles are published. A simple way to do this is to create business cards and use social media. Using a site like businesscards.co you can create professional blog business cards to hand out to people. Alternatively, you can also create social media profiles and start promoting your blog via Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, for example.
Day 5 – Create your first blog post
Now it’s time to create your first blog! Make sure that the blog is interesting. It should also include visual media such as images or even embedded videos. Also, make sure you check the spelling and grammar so the blog reads perfectly. You can also try to incorporate basic SEO techniques like the use of keywords.
Oftentimes people use their first blog to introduce what they intend to do. We don’t like this approach. Instead, jump right into the action and SHOW your readers what your blog is all about with an interesting first article!
