It’s taken me some time, but I had to recuperate from the whirlwind that is Social Media Marketing World otherwise known as #SMMW19.
I learned a lot but as is the case with a conference of this size, it is impossible to get to all the many sessions they offer. If you suffer from FOMO, you’ll be in real pain at this conference.
They do sell a virtual ticket so that you can get recordings of ALL the sessions. I did not purchase that ticket this year as I have in the past and it can take you weeks or months to get to all of it. I’ve spoken to others who’ve attended, and they are STILL working through the recordings!
Video is THE thing you must do
My big takeaways from this big event were that video is even MORE important and will become central to a social media strategy. FB is heading to LIVE video being THE way to get rewarded in its algorithm as it seeks to compete with YouTube. It sees it’s advantage in the video war being the interactivity between the person recording and those attending the Live. Being able to drive the content is something YT cannot do.
Podcasting needs to be part of your marketing strategy
Podcasts are another avenue that is terribly important. So much great info was shared about why and how to start your podcast. I have to give a big shoutout to who I consider to be the King of Podcasters, Carey Green. If you are wanting information to start your podcast or want to elevate your podcast game, check out his website at PodcastFastTrack.com.
I asked a few attendees of the #SMMW19 conference if they would share their highlights from the event and here is what they had to share:
While being more human was already the talk of the town even before the conference, I love that most of the speakers have emphasized more deeply its importance in the sessions as well as the keynote. It is indeed the name of the game may it be for managing a Facebook group, publishing videos, or sending emails. There are plenty of takeaways I can share here from the sessions, but I want to emphasize that one of my best experiences must be that time when I just spent a few minutes at a networking table only to realize that I’m seated next to two of social media’s brilliant minds, founders of social media management platforms Sendible and Social Pilot.
It’s amazing how by just talking to them you get to learn what they’re working on before others will find out. It is my hope that future attendees will put effort to spend more time connecting with other attendees both during the sessions and at networking breaks. There are a lot of possibilities. I hope this helps. For now, I’m working on a better process for building a digital marketing plan and improving design to become a champion at social media management.
Radio Talk Show Host Drew Taddia shared this great video with us discussing his experience from #SMMW19:
Advertising Specialty Institute’s Vin Driscoll created a Facebook Live with his and his buddy Patrick’s takeaways from the conference. Watch to catch their takeaways and those of others who joined in the FB Live :
